Romance in the Land of Enchantment

New Mexico is a popular destination for lovebirds. It is a place to come to for a romantic getaway and enjoy the breathtaking mountain vistas, clear dry air, and diverse sunsets.It is also a prime destination for those wanting to get married and honeymoon.

If you enjoy the great outdoors and taking in horseback riding, hot-air ballooning, skiing swimming, golfing or hiking you will numerous locals and opportunities to do this.

If you just want to enjoy a spa atmosphere, shopping and museum and gallery hopping. It too is here.

Here are a small number of ideas of great escapes to stay in when enjoying your romantic stay in New Mexico:


Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa

On the 500 acre Pueblo of Santa Ana a few miles north of Albuquerque lays this jewel.

Valet service will take your car and escort you into this resort with a full service spa and 400 acre golf course.

“Tamaya” means quiet and peaceful place in the Santa Ana language. This is what you will truly find as you see you are very secluded from the rest of the world.

A long line of Cottonwoods lining the Rio Grande River is a view from the portals of this resort. This too is a great place to take in the sunset amongst kiva fireplaces and enjoy the live music.

The lobby and main art of the resort is set in a lodge like atmosphere similar to many National Park Lodges.

You can stay in one of the VIP rooms that have numerous amenities, a sunken Jacuzzi, and splendid views. The other rooms surrounding the pool are just as well=appointed though. The scent of cedar can be found in the individual rooms as well as throughout the resort. There are three restaurants at Tamaya. The Corn Maiden, which serves rotisserie meats and seafood. They even have exotic grills such as venison, wild boar, and alligator sausage. The Santa Ana Café offers the southwestern fare, the Plaza Pool Grill offers sandwiches and drinks and the Twin warriors Golf Club offers a sushi bar and grill. Activities include Tennis, golf, horseback riding hot air ballooning and hayrides. Nature hikes along the Bosque and a fitness trail one mile long with stations are all among the Cottonwoods by the River.

Romantic carriage rides are available under the moonlight as well. The swimming pools are designed with the pueblo structures in mind.

On certain Fridays traditional dances and songs are performed. Fresh bread made in the Horno (outside traditional Pueblo Oven) and served with butter and jam.

At the spa you can enjoy herbal body wraps, salt rubs, facials, a variety of couple’s massages. Come to Tamaya for romance and pampering.


Lodge at Cloudcroft

This romantic lodge is located in the southern part of the state in the Sacramento Mountains. It was originally built of logs in 1899 as a luxury retreat. Clark Gable, Judy Garland, and Poncho Villa have all stayed at this local. The 47 rooms here are Victorian in style. The adjoining Pavilion Bed and Breakfast Inn has 10 rustic rooms and private luxury suites in the Retreat Suites.

The Lodge restaurant is named after a chamber maid Rebecca who they say haunts the lodge by opening and closing doors and sliding ashtrays across tables. It is said she was never to be found after her lumberjack lover found her in the arms of another man.

The lodge also offers a heated swimming pool and a spa with saunas, hot tubs and massages available. There is a golf course which was constructed in 1899 sits at 9,000 feet and is said to be one of the highest courses in the country. The village of Cloudcroft is an alpine village surrounded by National Forest to cross country ski, snowshoe, mountain bike and hike and swim in.


Rancho De San Juan

This little oasis in the dessert is just 35 miles north of Santa Fe. The views to be seen from this romantic spot are of the Ojo Caliente River Valley, the Jemez Mountains, and amazing rock formations and foothills. The country Inn and restaurant is in 225 secluded acres that include the Windows of the Earth sandstone shrine sculpted by Ra Paulette.

Rancho de San Juan is New Mexico’s only Chateau and Relais and therefore the smallest of details is given from the 280 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets that are hand starched and ironed to the eclectic art of Native American artists surrounding the Inn.

The 17 cozy gust rooms range from rooms with two bathrooms and a fireplace with expansive views to casitas with a kitchen and whirlpool baths. Massages are available in the room and also for a short drive to Ojo Caliente Hot Springs Spa down the street. The restaurant offers a cuisine that is the combination of the exotic and European flavors. This romantic getaway will give you a romantic and elegant getaway.


Bishop’s Lodge Resort and Spa

This is the closest romantic getaway to Santa Fe. It was originally a 1920’s mountain resort enjoyed by the first Archbishop of Santa Fe. Jean Baptiste Lamy’s romantic chapel still stands on the property and is where small wedding parties can be accommodated.

The blooms of lilac and fruit trees imported from his mother country of France still can be seen here..

This 11 room lodge today offers distinctive guest quarters with fireplaces and balconies. Guests can enjoy breakfast and sunset horseback rides. There is an outdoor pool Jacuzzi, exercise room tennis, trap and skeet shooting and hiking.

The Sha Nah Spa and Wellness Center offers clay wraps, stone massages, facials, acupuncture, Pilates and private Yoga classes.

Bishop’s Lodge is one of Santa Fe’s and New Mexico’s pride and joy and a romantic experience.


El Monte Sagrado

This is a brand new luxury eco friendly resort in Taos. It is a natural paradise that offers water gardens and herbal garden and fruit landscapes. There 18 Pueblo themed suites as well as some more international flared suites. The Tibetan, Balinese, Egyptian and Karma Sutra are examples of these. Casitas are also available with kitchens, fireplaces and patios all within walking distance of the Taos plaza. The resort’s restaurant De La Tierra offers fresh and innovative dishes from locally grown farms and the gardens on premises.

The spa Detlev’s at El Monte offers traditional massages, spiritual healing sessions, acupuncture, and tarot card readings. There is a fitness center, whirlpool, room, outdoor pool and lounge.

This is truly a romantic Shangri-La in the mountain town of Taos.
